A Preparation for = Avian=20 Flu

A Natural Therapy = for=20 self-protection and treating Avian Influenza
(Updated July 13, 2006)

Last year, various U.S. and U.N. agencies and the Council on = Foreign=20 Relations are spreading the word that the Avian Influenza could be = as=20 severe as the worldwide Spanish Influenza epidemic of 1918, and = predicted=20 hundreds of millions of deaths worldwide.

However, most researchers into this influenza are now saying = that it is=20 extremely unlikely that it can mutate to become a communicable = human=20 disease. However, given the extremity of illness that it does = cause when=20 contracted by humans, it is probably best to prepare our immunity = if it=20 does spread to birds in the United States.

This influenza, currently isolated mostly to birds in the Far = East and=20 Eastern Europe (though infected migratory birds have been found in = other=20 countries), is a hemorrhagic illness. When it spreads to humans it = kills=20 more than half of its victims by rapidly depleting ascorbate = (vitamin C)=20 stores in the body, inducing scurvy and collapse of the arterial = blood=20 supply, causing internal hemorrhaging of the lungs and sinus = cavities.

Most people today have barely enough vitamin C in their bodies=20 (typically 60 mg per day) to prevent scurvy under normal living=20 conditions, and are not prepared for this kind of illness. = (Vitamin C=20 deficiency is the root cause of many infant and childhood deaths=20 worldwide, and it is the root cause of Sudden Infant Death = Syndrome -=20 SIDS.)

The way to prepare yourself and protect your family from this = influenza=20 is not a vaccine or anti-viral drug. I strongly = recommend that=20 if vaccines and/or anti-viral drugs are offered to you, that you = refuse=20 them. These actually reduce your immunity; vaccines contain = many toxic=20 components, such as aluminum, mercury, and solvents, and = anti-viral drugs=20 interfere with critical body processes. Historical evidence of=20 vaccinations has shown that they actually increase the chances of = becoming=20 severely ill. Influenza vaccines in particular are notoriously = ineffective=20 and have harmed thousands of people, and there is evidence already = that=20 Tamiflu, now being stockpiled for a possible epidemic, is useless = against=20 Avian Influenza. The best way to prepare for influenza is by = enhancing=20 your immune system and increasing the amount of vitamin C in your=20 body.

The amounts of vitamin C suggested below are perfectly safe. = This=20 nutrient is actually produced in the bodies of most animals, in = enormous=20 quantities. Only humans, monkeys, and a few other animals must = consume it=20 to get enough of it, and most humans get about one-thirtieth = (1/30) of the=20 amount they really need. It is necessary for dozens of body = processes,=20 such as the building of collagen and the making of antibodies, = white blood=20 cells, and neurotransmitters.

The supplements I suggest below can be obtained at good quality = supplement stores such as Vitamin Shoppe or at online supplement=20 discounters such as iherb.com, although the powdered forms can = only be=20 purchased from online discounters. Buy good quality supplements = such as=20 those made by NOW Foods, Source Naturals, Jarrow, Nature's Way, = Vitamin=20 Shoppe (store brand), etc. (These are not endorsements, but = suggestions=20 based on my personal experience). For vitamin C, buy ascorbic = acid,=20 not the chelated forms such as calcium or sodium ascorbate or = Ester-C,=20 because at the acute illness dosages you would be taking too much = of these=20 minerals). Do not use drug store supplements.

1. Begin increasing the amount of vitamin C that you take each = day to=20 very high levels, spread over the course of the day, in divided = doses=20 taken with meals. Start at 1000 mg per meal, and increase slowly = to=20 2000-4000 mg per meal. (These are adult doses, modify by body = weight for=20 children.) Your optimal dose is just below the point where your = body=20 complains by giving you mild diarrhea. This is called the "bowel = tolerance=20 dose." Such doses are perfectly safe - vitamin C is natural to our = bodies=20 and needed for many body processes. Most people don't get nearly = enough.=20 Stock up on this vital nutrient - buy ascorbic acid in 1000 mg = capsules or=20 in powder form, 1-pound or 3-pound canisters. Mix powder with = water or=20 fruit juice. Be sure to take vitamin C with food that will coat = your=20 stomach to prevent stomach upset, such as organic soymilk, and to = rinse=20 your mouth afterwards to prevent mouth irritation or potential = interaction=20 with tooth enamel.

2. Take 6000 mg of the amino acid lysine per day, 2000 mg per = meal=20 (adult dose, modify by body weight for children). Lysine is a = natural=20 protease inhibitor - it prevents bacteria and viruses from = spreading in=20 your body. You can obtain it in tablet, capsule, or powder form. = The=20 latter form is the least expensive; buy several pound containers = of=20 it.

3. Take a high-potency multivitamin/multimineral tab, and a=20 calcium/magnesium supplement, every day.

4. Drink at least 2 quarts (8 cups, 2 liters) of = non-caffeinated=20 liquids per day. Spring water and/or decaffeinated green tea made = with=20 spring water are best. Do not drink diet soda or consume anything = with=20 aspartame or other artificial sweeteners.

5. Stock up on other anti-viral agents and nutrients: l-proline = and=20 l-glycine (amino acids - at least one pound of each, in powder = form),=20 turmeric extract capsules, ginger capsules, garlic capsules, 15-mg = zinc/1-mg copper capsules or tabs, oil of oregano (Gaia Herbs = brand is a=20 good one), decaffeinated green tea extract, N-Acetyl Cysteine = (NAC), and=20 non-gmo or organic soy protein drink concentrate. (Note to = expectant=20 mothers: Do not use oregano oil or green tea extract during=20 pregnancy.)

6. In advance (right now), find a chelation or alternative = health=20 clinic that is willing to administer 30-gram intravenous vitamin C = infusions. This may be necessary if you are stricken by the Avian = Flu and=20 find that you cannot keep up with it with the oral dosage. 7. If you do become ill, start increasing your vitamin C dosage = dramatically - your bowel tolerance dose will rise as it is used = to=20 detoxify your body from the virus toxins; it may rise to as much = as=20 100,000-200,000 mg (100 to 200 grams) per day (adult dose). Take = up to=20 4000 mg per dose, with increased number of dosages. Start taking = 12,000 mg=20 of each of l-lysine, l-proline and l-glycine per day, in divided = doses.=20 Take 1000 mg oregano, 4000 mg turmeric extract, 4000 mg = ginger,  4000=20 mg garlic, 45 mg zinc/3 mg copper, 1500 mg N-acetyl cysteine = (NAC), and=20 2000 mg green tea per day, in divided doses. Increase fluid intake = to 3-4=20 quarts (liters) per day. (These are the adult doses, slightly more = or less=20 is OK, modify by weight for children.) Eat small easily-digestible = meals=20 complemented with 1/2-scoop soy or whey protein shakes.  = Continue=20 this regimen until all signs of illness have subsided. If the = illness is=20 not controlled by the regimen, obtain a series (2-3 per week) of = 30-gram=20 Vitamin C intravenous infusions at a chelation or alternative = health=20 clinic, with higher dosages if necessary for pneumonia or = previously=20 compromised immunity (e.g., AIDS or CFIDS). (Important: See = note above=20 regarding use of this regimen during pregnancy; do not use oregano = oil or=20 green tea during pregnancy.)

8. If you are currently taking Lipitor or another=20 cholesterol-lowering (statin) drug, stop taking it immediately. = These=20 drugs are very damaging to the immune system. The above = vitamin C and=20 lysine regimen will (through a completely different mechanism) = naturally=20 balance your cholesterol and protect you from heart disease. If = you=20 continue to take a maintenance dose of 6000 mg of vitamin C and = 6000 mg of=20 lysine per day, you will never need to take statin drugs ever = again.
